Discover 700 years of power, partying and propaganda in a unique historical setting within Coventry’s Cathedral Quarter. In these dedicated time slots we will be offering a quieter visit, with sounds and noises turned down or off where possible and fewer people around.
St Mary’s Guildhall, Hardish Virk and Coventry Artspace are proud to collaborate on the ‘What We Wore: Stories of South Asian Textiles’ exhibition and supporting programme of activities for South Asian Heritage Month.
‘What We Wore: Stories of South Asian Textiles’ is an exhibition exploring the theme of South Asian textiles and fashion inspired by the thousands of items found in the ‘Stories That Made Us’ South Asian archive (managed by Hardish Virk in partnership with Coventry Artspace). The archive includes clothes, music, photographs and art including audio recordings and writings of author and radio broadcaster, from the late Jasvir Kang. The interactive exhibition will include pre-recorded audio of Jasvir’s poem “My Mother’s Sari” in Punjabi, and will create a living museum, where the audience can engage with the exhibition, through touch, sound and smell.
There will also be a programme of supporting workshops and events, including a launch evening on Friday 28th July.
The What We Wore exhibition is included in the standard additional price for St Mary Guildhall and can be viewed from the 28th July until 30th September 2023.
Please see a list of dates and times on our booking page of when the exhibition can be viewed for the £1 booking fee which can be paid at reception on arrival please note card payments only are taken.
Separate prices apply for admission to the wider standard Guildhall entry (including the exhibition), these can be bought online ahead of visit or also on the day at the reception.
